Donovan - Atlantis - lyrics

The continent of Atlantis was an island
Which lay before the great flood
In the area we now call the Atlantic Ocean.
So great an area of land,
That from her western shores
Those beautiful sailors journeyed
To the South and the North Americas with ease,
In their ships with painted sails.
To them East Africa was a neighbour,
Across a short strait of sea miles.
The great Egyptian age is
But a remnant of The Atlantian culture.
The antediluvian kings colonised the world
All the Gods who play in the mythological dramas
In all legends from all lands were from far Atlantis.
Knowing her fate,
Atlantis sent out ships to all corners of the Earth.
On board were the Twelve:
The poet, the physician, The farmer, the scientist,
The magician and the other so-called Gods of our legends.
Though Gods they were -
And as the elders of our time choose to remain blind
Let us rejoice
And let us sing
And dance and ring in the new Hail Atlantis!
Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be,
Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be,
Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be.
Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be,
Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be.
My antediluvian baby, oh yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah,
I wanna see you some day
My antediluvian baby, oh yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah,
My antediluvian baby,
My antediluvian baby, I love you, girl,
Girl, I wanna see you some day.
My antediluvian baby, oh yeah
I wanna see you some day, oh My antediluvian baby.
My antediluvian baby, I wanna see you
My antediluvian baby, gotta tell me where she gone
I wanna see you some day Wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up,
oh yeah Oh club club, down down, yeah
My antediluvian baby, oh yeah yeah yeah yeah

Donovan - Aye My Love - lyrics

Though you say that the sorrow is all yours
And the pleasure is mine
Once we were, now we're not together here,
I'm not half as happy.
Aye, my love, it's hard, my love,
Be strong, my love, be strong.
Though you say that the sorrow is all yours
And the pleasure is mine
Once we were, now we're not together here,
I'm not half as happy.
Aye, my love, it's hard, my love,
Be strong, my love, be strong

Donovan - A Sunny Day - lyrics

Sunny day while away the afternoon
Cutting nettles that are hiding petals pink
>From the river drink.
Bluebells, wood dells where dwells a squirrel
Who slinks along branched patterns heightens call of coaltit small
Hover over river.
Diving, writhing, gnattring chiff chaff chattering
Woodpecker staggering hammering
Exaggerating off his find.
Do da do
Sunny day while away the afternoon
Cutting nettles that are hiding petals pink
>From the river drink.
Bluebells, wood dells where dwells a squirrel
Who slinks along branched patterns heightens call of coaltit small
Hover over river

Donovan - A Funny Man - lyrics

One day a funny kind of man came walking down this street,
he wore a shoe upon his head and hats upon his feet.
He raised the shoe and smiled at me, his manners were polite,
But never had I seen before such a funny sounding sight.
He said, "Allow me to present your highness wit h a rose"
And taking out a currant bun, he held it to my nose.
I staggered back against the wall and then I answered, "Well,
I never saw a rose with such a funny looking smell.
He then began tol sing a song -mm - and sat down on the ground,
You never heard in all your life such a funny feeling sound.
"My friend, why do you werar two hats upon your feet ?" I said,
He turned the other way and hopped home on his head

Donovan - Age Of Treason - lyrics

On a lone and windy hilltop beneath a roof of tin
In a little wallpapered bedroom I done my growin'.
'Twas there I dreamt my dreams, I hung my jeans
And wandered through my puberty as all do.
My mother was a tight nut bound up with false guilt
Strapped up in her fearing wall she had built.
The independent girl in a dark and cruel world
She'd lost the way to say, "OK, now lay back".
We disagreed on most things, I shouted peace and love
The family is mankind, the symbol of the dove.
She only saw the surface of things before her face
But I was young and argued on for hours.
My father he liked poetry, a scholar he might have made.
Had nothing, born a poor boy barefoot and underpaid
So the man worked with his hands up and down the land,
His dreams forgot he thought that I must follow.
With his marks as worker's wisdom he'd read a thing or two
He once had been a Mason but he never followed through.
Always kind and thoughtful, smelling of mushy oil
And he read me poetry of visionaries.
I flunk my way to college, a looser kind of school
But we bobbed and played time arty, feeling cool
Just to live an artists diggin' the ravin' scene
Reading Kerouac and Ginsberg well deuced.
I was not academic, Art and English neat,
The history of mankind I liked that a bit.
And what was I to do ? The choices they were few,
I done right disgrace to the working classes
I done right disgrace to the working classes
I done right disgrace to the working classes
I done right disgrace to the working classes

Donovan - Appearances - lyrics

Can't get the shake together with the rock
Movin' her body before she can talk
People say you get nowhere till you walk
But you feel and you hurt and you love
Yes you feel and you hurt and you love
You got the legs to strut it on down
Parade your pretty self in the town
Won't be too long now and you'll get around
For to feel and to hurt and to love
For to feel and to hurt and to love
Don't let appearances fool you
Life's not what the rule book tells
Don't let appearances fool you
Feel the vibes as well
Feel the vibes as well
Now you're a woman, you must use it
Well
Shakin' your pills at the wedding bell
People say you get nowhere till you
Smell
But you feel and you hurt and you love
You do feel and do hurt you do love

Donovan - Ballad Of Geraldine - lyrics

Oh, I was born with the name Geraldine
With hair coal black as a raven.
I travelled my life without a care,
Ah, but all my love I was savin'.
Oh, the winds blew high and the trees did sway,
Not much from life was I askin'.
Till I met someone to give all my love,
All my love, so long an' lasting.
Oh, good were the parts we played in our game
And a long ways off was tomorrow.
But my love was a rambler and restless as the sea,
And in the tide came sorrow.
Oh, a child of the night is goin' to be born,
I can't explain my confusion.
Is my love thinkin' to marry me at all
Or of the freedom he thinks he'll be losin'?
I sit with my friends in the gay crowded room,
My friends they're smokin' and a-talkin'.
But it all seems so empty, my love is not there,
So I'll go into the streets a-walkin'.
My baby is a-growin' as a-growin' it must,
If I were to lose it, it would grieve me.
My love is so helpless and I'm wonderin' what to do.
Oh, how I yearn to help him.
Oh, we could go to the land of your choice
Where the false shame won't come knockin' at our door.
I've a feeling in my heart and it's crushing all my hopes,
I think I'm gonna be hurt some more,
Oh, I was born with the name Geraldine,
With hair coal black as a raven.
I travelled my life without a care,
Ah, but all my love I was savin

Donovan - Be Mine - lyrics

Stars 'round the fair moon veil their own shining
when She's full on the earth with the light of Her silver
Set you to rest on the softest of cushions
the black trance of night on our eyes like the river
Gentle the steps of the lovely young women
dancing in tune 'round the intimate shrine
Treading the soft smooth bloom of the grasses
Be mine and I will be thine
Be mine, be mine and I will be thine
Be mine and I will be thine
Be mine, be mine and I will be thine
Be mine and I will be thine
Venus is flashing aqua-marina
Jupiter rising into his sign
Here in the dusky rose of the dawning
Be mine and I will be thine

Donovan - Belated Forgiveness Plea - lyrics

As a pilgrim I did go
To a land that I did know,
To the shores of Trist la Cal,
To see if I still felt
The same.
And the sun blazed madly insane,
But the seagulls they have gone,
The seagulls they have gone.
I searched the sand for sound,
My eyes forced to the ground.
The wind it laughed wild and shrill,
My heart it tried to spill
Its crazy tears.
There is nothing left for me now
For the seagulls, they have gone,
The seagulls, they have gone.
I stand both young and old
But the winds of time blow cold.
This much you must believe:
It pains to see you grieve.
I pity you,
But there is nothing that I can do
For the seagulls, they have gone,
The seagulls, they have gone.
As a pilgrim I did go
To a land that I did know,
To the shores of Trist la Cal,
To see if I still felt
The same.
And the sun blazed madly insane,
But the seagulls, they have gone,
The seagulls, they have gone

Donovan - Hurdy Gurday Man - lyrics

Thrown like a star in my vast sleep
I open my eyes to take a peep
To find that I was by the sea
Gazing with tranquillity.
'Twas then when the Hurdy Gurdy Man
Came singing songs of love,
Then when the Hurdy Gurdy Man
Came singing songs of love.
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang.
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang.
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang.
Histories of ages past
Unenlightened shadows cast
Down through all eternity
The crying of humanity.
'Tis then when the Hurdy Gurdy Man
Comes singing songs of love,
Then when the Hurdy Gurdy Man
Comes singing songs of love.
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang.
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy.
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang.
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang.
Here comes the roly poly man and he's singing songs of love,
Roly poly, roly poly, roly poly, poly he sang.
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang,
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang?
