Lou Reed - Average Guy - lyrics

I aint no christian or no born again saint
I aint no cowboy or marxist d.a.
I aint no criminal or reverend cripple from the right
I am just your average guy, trying to do whats right
Im just your average guy
An average guy
I am just your average guy
Im just an average guy
Average guy, Im just your average guy
Im average looking and Im average inside
Im an average lover and I live in an average place
You wouldnt know me if you met me face to face
Im just your average guy
Average guy
Average guy
Im just an average guy
I worry about money and taxes and such
I worry that my livers big and it hurts to the touch
I worry about my health and bowels
And the crime waves in the street
Im really just your average guy
Trying to stand on his own two feet
Im just your average guy
Im just your average guy
Im just your average guy
Average guy
Average looks, average taste
Average height, an average waist
Average in everything I do
My temperature is 98.2
Im just your average guy
An average guy
Average guy
Im just an average guy
Average guy
Im just your average guy
Im just your average guy
Im just your average guy
Average

Lou Reed - A Gift - lyrics

Im just a gift to the women of this world
Im just a gift to the women of this world
Responsibility sits so hard on my shoulder
Like a good wine, Im better as I grow older, and now -
- Im just a gift to the women of this world
Im just a gift to the women of this world
Im just a gift to the women of this world
Its hard to settle for second best
After youve had me, you know that youve had the best
And now you know that -
- Im just a gift to the women of this world
(Im just a gift to the women of this world)
(Im just a gift to the women of this world)
Responsibility sits hard on my shoulder
Like a good wine, Im better as I get older, and now -
- Im just a gift to the women of this world
You know that Im just a gift to the women of this world
Just a gift now
(Im just a gift to the women of this world)
(Im just a gift to the women of this world)
(Im just a gift to the women of this world)
(Im just a gift to the women of this world, just now)
(Im just a gift to the women of this world, just a gift)
(Im just a gift to the women of this world)
Im just a gift to the women of this world
Im just a gift to the women of this world
....

Lou Reed - Adventurer - lyrics

Youre an adventurer
You sail across the oceans
You climb the himalayas
Seeking truth and beauty as a natural state
Youre a queen reborn
Worshipped from above afar
Some see you as an elixir
An elemental natural seeking perfect grace
In a catacomb
Or cave of endless drawings
Prehistoric or religious
Your accomplishments prodigious
Seeking out the perfect tone
Your language so clear
Your voice perfectly turning
As in the city I sit yearning
Blowing rings of smoke from thin cigars
Or driving fast in foreign cars
To capture your remains, huh
Youre an adventurer
A turban wet wrapped round your head
On the mountainside they predict your death
Oh how you fooled them all
But subjects are a poor excuse
When what you really wants a muse
An inspirating knowledge
Of what comes before
Ooohhh, speeds of light
The momentary flicker
Of a candle in its wicker basket
Smoking wax, facts
Did you find that superior knowledge
That eluded you in college
Did you find that super vortex
That could cause your cerebral cortex
Ooohhh, to lose its grip
Youre an adventurer
You were out looking for meaning
While the rest of us were steaming
In an inspirating
Ah, urban pit
An adventurer
You enter as Im dreaming
I wish Id never wake up
Differentiating scheming from my one true love
Youre an adventurer
You love the angles and the cherries
The height and width of levies
The natural bridge and tunnels of the human race
Youre an adventurer
Nothing seem to scare you
And if it does it wont dissuade you
You just will not think about it
You dismiss it and defocus
You redefine the locus of your time in space, race
As you move further from me
And though I understand the thinking
And have often done the same thing
I find parts of me gone
Youre an adventurer
And though Ill surely miss you
And of course Ill survive without you
And maybe good will come of that
But at this point, ah
I anticipate some grieving
And although I know your leaving
Is a necessary adjunct to what we both do
An adventurer
Splitting up the atom
Splitting up the once was
Splitting up the essence of our star-crossed fate
None who meet you
Do forget you, my adventurer
My adventurer, my adventurer-venturer
My adventuress

Lou Reed - Baby Face - lyrics

Jim, livin with youd not such fun
Youre not the only one
You dont have the looks
Youre not the person that you used to be
And there are people on the street that would go for me
And I said, no, no, no, no, no
Baby face
And I said, no, no, no, no, no
Baby face
I met you in a bar in l.a.
I was not feeling so good
You did the proper moves
You did everything that you should
But now youre making a mistake
And somebody else will take your place
Youre taking drugs off of me
And I said, no, no, no, no, no
I said now, no, no, no, no, no
I said now, no, no, no, no, no
Baby face
I said, now, no, no, no, no, no
Baby face
Youre not the kind of person
Its easy to live with in a house
I cook all your meals
I make sure that you work out
But lately its been gettin so hard
(man, you dont split your stash with your blood)
The way you talk, ooohhh, the way you walk
(you can keep it)
And Im not sure exactly what its all about
And I said, no, no, no, no, no
Baby face
I said, now, no, no, no, no, no
Baby face
I said now, no, no, no, no
I said now, no, no, no, no
Ooohhh, baby face, ohh
No, no, baby face
No way, no, baby face
Uh, uh
(you can keep it, just keep it)

Lou Reed - Animal Language - lyrics

Miss riley had a dog
She used to keep it in her backyard
And when the dog began to bark
All the neighbors began to shout
Then came a stormy night
Miss riley let her dog out
And when the neighbors found him round
They put a gun down his mouth and shot him down
And he went
Ooohhh-wow, bow-wow
Ooohhh-wow, bow-wow
Miss murphy had a cat
On her lap it sat
And once in a great big while
It looked like that cheshire cat did smile
But often it used to chase
Anything that crossed its face
But one day it got so hot
That cheshire cat had a blood clot
And she said
Ooohhh-meow, me-meow
Ooohhh-meow, me-meow
Meow
And then the dog met the cat
The dog was hot and the cat was wet
Then came some sweaty dude
He put a board between the two
Then they couldnt get at it
Got frustrated all about it
So they did the only thing you could do
They took the dudes sweat and shot it up between the two
And they said
Ooohhh-wow, bow-wow
Ooohhh-wow, bow, me, wow

Lou Reed - A Dream - lyrics

It was a very cold clear fall night
I had a terrible dream
Billy name and brigid were playing under my stair case
On the second floor about two oclock in the morning
I woke up
Because amos and archie had started barking
That made me very angry
Because I wasnt feeling well and I told them
I was very cross the real me
That they just better remember
What happened to sam the bad cat
That was left at home and got sick and went ***** heaven
It was a very cold clear fall night
Some snowflakes were falling
Gee, it was so beautiful
And so I went to get my camera to take some pictures
And then I was taking the pictures
But the exposure thing wasnt right
And I was going to call fred or gerry
To find out how to get set it
I was too late
And then I remembered they were still probably at dinner
And anyway
I felt really bad and didnt want to talk to anybody
But the snowflakes were so beautiful and real looking
And I really wanted to hold them
And thats when I heard the voices
From down the hall near the stairs
So I got a flashlight
And I was scared and I went out into the hallway
Theres been all kinds of troubles
Lately in the neighborhood
And someones got to bring home the bacon and anyway
There were brigid and billy playing
And under the stair case
Was a little meadow sort of like the park at 23rd street
Where all the young kids go and play frisbee
Gee, that must be fun
Maybe we should do an article on that in the magazine
But theyll just tell me Im stupid and it wont sell
But Ill just hold my ground this time, I mean
Its my magazine, isnt it?
So I was thinking that as the snowflakes fell
And I heard those voices having so much fun
Gee, it would be so great to have some fun
So I called billy
But either he didnt hear me or he didnt want to answer
Which was so strange
Because
Even if I dont like reunions Ive always loved billy
Im so glad hes working
I mean its different than ondine
He keeps touring with those movies
And he doesnt even pay us and the film
I mean the films just going to disintegrate and then what
I mean hes so normal off of drugs
I just dont get it
And then I saw john cale
Hes been looking really great
Hes been coming by the office to exercise with me
Ronnie said I have a muscle
But hes been really mean since he went to aa
I mean what does it mean
When you give up drinking and then youre still so mean
He says Im being lazy but Im not
Im just cant find any ideas
I mean Im just not
Lets face it
Going to get any ideas up at the office
And seeing john made me think of the velvets
And I had been thinking about them
When I was on st. marks place
Going to that new gallery those sweet new kids have opened
But the thought I was old
And then I saw the old dom
The old club where we did our first shows
It was so great
And I dont understand about that velvets first album
I mean I did the cover
I was the producer
And I always see it repackaged
And Ive never gotten a penny from it
How could that be
I should call henry
But it was good seeing john
I did a cover for him
But I did in black and white and he change it to color
It would have been worth more if hed left it my way
But you can never tell any body anything Ive leaned that
I tried calling again to billy and john
They wouldnt recognize me it was like I wasnt there
Why wont they let me in
And then I saw lou
Im so mad at him
Lou reed got married and didnt invite me
I mean is it because he thought Id bring too many people
I dont get it
Could have at least called
I mean hes doing so great
Why doesnt he call me?
I saw him at the mtv show
And he was one row away and he didnt even say hello
I dont get it
You know I hate lou
I really do
He wont even hire us for his videos
And I was proud of him
I was so scared today
There was blood leaking thought my shirt
From those old scars from being shot
And the corset I wear to keep my insides in was hurting
And I did three sets of fifteen pushups
And four sets of ten setups
But then my insides hurt
And I saw drops of blood on my shirt and I remember
The doctors saying I was dead
And then later they had to take blood out of my hand
couse they ran out or veins
But then
All this thinking was making me an old grouch
And you cant do anything anyway so
If they wouldnt let me play with them in my own dream
I was just going to have to make another
And another
And another
Gee, wouldnt it be funny if I died in this dream
Before I could make another one up
And nobody called
And nobody came

Lou Reed - All Through The Night - lyrics

Dont you feel so lonely when its in the afternoon
And you gotta face it
All through the night
Dont it make you believe
That somethings gonna have to happen soon
Oh baby, all through the night
All through the night
Oh baby, all through the night
All through the night
All through the night
Have you ever played with an all night band
And gone trough it, baby
All through the night
When the daytime descends in a night time of hell
Everybodys gone to look for a bell to ring
All through the night
And they do it, all through the night
Babe, all through the night
When the words were donw and the poetry comes
And the novels written and the book is done
You said, oh lord, lover, baby, give it to me
All through the night
And she says it
My best friend sally, she got sick
And Im feeling mighty ill myself it happens all the time
And all through the night
I went to saint vincents and Im watching the ceiling
Fall down on her body as shes lying round on the ground
Said, oh babe, gotta celebrate all through the night
Feel so sad I cried all through the night
I said, oh jesus, all through the night
If the sinners sin and the good mans gone
And a woman cant come and help him home
And what youre gonna do about it
When they go on all through the night
And they sing, oh baby, oh baby, oh baby
All through the night
And he says, give it to me all through the night
It aint so much when a mans gotta cry
Give a little loving and some peace of mind
I said, hey babe, give it to me all through the night
And some people wait for things that never come
And some people dream of things theyve never been done
They do it, oh baby, all through the night
The citys funny and the countrys quiet
But Id wanna know why they dont have a riot
Why dont they do it, baby, all through the night
Ooohhh mama, ooohhh mama, tell me bout it
All through the night
I want to have it all through the night
If christmas comes only once a year
Why cant anybody shed just one tear
For things that dont happen all through the night
Ooohhh mama, all through the night
Oh baby, do it to me all through the night
Easy, easy, baby, why dont you give it to -
- me all through the night

Lou Reed - America - lyrics

(Francis Scott Key)
Oh, say, can you see
By the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed
At the twilight's last gleaming
Whose broad stripes and bright stars
Through the perilous fight
O'er the ramparts we watched were so
Gallantly streaming?
America, America, America
America, America, America
And the rocket's red glare
The bombs bursting in air
Gave proof through the night
That our flag was still there
Oh, say, does that star
Spangled banner yet wave
Over the land of the free
And the home of the brave!
America, America, America
America, America, America
America, America, America
America, America, America
America, America, America
America, America
ooohhh

Lou Reed - Andy's Chest - lyrics

If I could be anything in the world that flew
I would be a bat and come swooping after you
And if the last time you were here things were a bit askew
Well you know what happens after dark
When rattlesnakes lose their skins and their hearts
And all the missionaries lose their bark
Oh, all the trees are calling after you
And all the venom snipers after you
Are all the mountains bolder after you?
If I could be anyone of the things in this world that bite
Instead of an ocelot on a leash, Id rather be a kite
And be tied to the end of your string
And flying in the air, babe, at night
Cause ou know what they say about honey bears
When you shave off all their baby hair
You have a hairy minded pink bare bear
And all the balls are rolling out for you
And stones are all erupting out for you
And all the cheap bloodsuckers are flying after you
Yesterday, daisy mae and biff were grooving on the street
And just like in a movie, her hands became her feet
Her belly button was her mouth
Wich meant she tasted what shed speak
But the funny thing is what happened to her nose
It grew until it reached all of her toes
Now when people say her feet they mean her nose
And curtains laced with diamonds dear for you
And all the roman noblemen for you
And kingdoms christian soldiers dear for you
And melting ice cap mountain tops for you
And knights in flamming silver robes for you
And bats that with a kiss turn prince for you
Swoop, swoop
Oh baby,
Rock rock
Swoop, swoop, rock, rock

Lou Reed - A Sheltered Life - lyrics

Never been to england, never been to france
Never really learned how to dance
Ive never taken dope and Ive never taken drugs
Ah, Ive never danced on a bear-skin rug
Guess its true, what all those people they say
Im gonna have to loose my hometown ways
Guess its true, guess Ive led a sheltered life
Never went around with anything
Ive had a hometown life, and I have never learned to swing
Not much of a life, I havent seen much
Ive been true to my wife and its just been too much
Guess its true, what all these people they say
Im gonna have to lose my hometown ways
You know its true, guess Ive led a sheltered life
Guess its true, what all those people they say
Im gonna have to lose my hometown ways
Guess its true, guess Ive led a sheltered life
